General Information
The Binational Migrant Education Program “PROBEM”, is a National program created by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) as a response of the Mexican and U.S governments, to the educational problems of the migrant population between both countries. It seeks to ensure with equity and pertinence the continuity and quality of the Basic Education for kids and youth who attend one part of the school year in Mexico and another in the United States of America. It’s A program of special education for the children of migrant farm workers or fishermen. The goal is to ensure that migrant students of Mexican origin have the same education opportunities, that they can have access to academic and social programs of high quality and to decrease in a significant way, the school disruption due to the migrant phenomenon.
The advances and achievements reached today represent the effort and joint work of the Secretariat of Public Education and the Secretariat of Foreign Relations, as well as governments and educational authorities of the 32 Federal Entities and to the 27 participating states by the American Union. The actions performed in a coordinated way, respond to the commitment to raise coverage, quality and effectiveness in the services of Basic Education that are granted to this important sector of the population both in Mexico and in the neighboring country.
